Travel Information

Assisi is around the geometrical center of Italy, close to Perugia. This is the place where San Francesco (Patron saint of Italy) and Santa Chiara were born and lived in the 12th-13th centuries. San Francesco is considered the first environmentalist, so most of the themes of FLAIR well fit with the ambience of the place. S. Maria degli Angeli is a small district of Assisi, grown close to the impressive basilica built around Porziuncola, the small church started by San Francesco. This location should enable maintaining the concept of FLAIR of staying in the same place, to maximize interaction in an informal atmosphere, and to create a core group for furthering Laser Applications in Industry and Research as a cross-disciplinary field of research.
